It's possible to visit Machupicchu in one day but it's advisable to spend a night in Aguas Calientes Town because the second day you will visit Machupicchu very early, with a few visitors and with oneself's mind at ease. Itinerary.

Day 1: Cusco - Aguas Calientes

Early in the morning we will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco to go to the Train Station and travel by train for 4 hours, we'll arrive to Aguas Calientes Town. In this place you can relax and take the natural hot springs or trek the surrounding the Town.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

Today after breakfast we will take the first bus up to Machupicchu to see the sunrise with the guide that will take you on a tour to explore and learn about this marvelous city. After the tour you will have free time to explore and climb the famous mountain of Waynapicchu. Late in the afternoon we will take the bus to Aguas Calientes Town and board the train back to Cusco. Reception and transfer to your hotel.
