General Facts

Cusco city is considered the historical capital of Peru, now is the first tourist center and it has been declared a Cultural Inheritance of the Humanity by the UNESCO. Everything in Cusco is beautiful because it keeps all the history of Peru from it's foundation as an inka nation.

In the past, Cusco was considered a sacred city and the capital of the Inka's empire, was the government center of the four big administrative regions called Tahuantinsuyo. This fabulous empire extended including a great part of what today is Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile: the Inka Empire was a very well structured society. It stands out for having a great knowledge in architecture, hydraulic engineering; medicine and agriculture.

On March 23, 1534, Francisco Pizarro arrived to the Inca city of Cusco. A Spanish city that turned out to be an example of culture blending, which has left us priceless architecture monuments and exuberant art.

Since 1821, with José de San Martin and 1824, with Simón Bolivar we started to have the republican political system and started to show the wonders of its culture. With the discovery of Machupicchu by HIRAM BINGHAM in 1911, Peru and Cusco are mentioned all over the word.
